Marquee Riggers – Employment Opportunities – Hatch Marquee Hire
We often get asked what’s involved with being a marquee rigger, of course the simplest answer is that it’s all about putting up and taking down marquees. But here at Hatch we like to think there is a bit more to joining our team…
Jon, Dave and Kris the owners of the business are riggers themselves and you will often still find them out on site because they just LOVE it! They acquired the business after working their way through the ranks having all started out as additional summer staff. They have a huge amount of enthusiasm for what they do and that is reflected by all the team.
Yes, the work is really physical and during the busy months of the year the days are long. But the work is outdoors in some of the most beautiful locations in the South West and being part of an awesome team, which works hard, does a great job and has a lot of laughs too is extremely satisfying and good fun.
”There is a great pride among the guys to make sure that each job is absolutely perfect, it’s the little touches that make the difference between a nice marquee and an awesome one!” explains Jon.
”We get to build a venue from scratch and hand over a marquee that you know is going to host a really special day – it’s really important that we get it right and go that extra mile to make it perfect. Our clients are often on site during the build and we get many comments on what a lovely bunch of lads we have working for us – and they are right, we do!”
We want great people to work for us, and each year we need to employ additional riggers to see us through the busy summer months. They receive on the job training under the supervision of one of our foremen, who each lead a team. We meet at the yard at 7am, travel to site and generally finish a build in one day, returning to the yard late afternoon/evening to load up for the next day. The hours are long but so is the opportunity to earn a good income.
It can be a great option for university students, who are wanting to cram in a lot of work to keep them going through the next year. And each year at the end of the summer there is always an end of season ‘do’ – which usually involves an activity of some kind and of course a few beers!
For the right candidates, that have worked a summer season, there is the real potential for further opportunities, such as returning to Hatch Marquees the following season or staying with the company and becoming a full time member of the team. We are always on the look out to keep the right people during the winter season, which can be busy as we operate with just a core staff.
Hatch Marquees also invests in its staff with the opportunity to undertake additional relevant qualifications. We have supported a member of staff getting a driving licence and there is the potential to progress to professional driving qualifications including trailer and HGV licences. Our full time Riggers also undertake first aid training and ad hoc industry courses.
So if you like the outdoors, enjoy physical work, love being part of team, want to learn new skills and have some fun along the way too…then get in contact, we would love to hear from you.
